Peterhof & Hermitage
Peterhof (Park only)
Peterhof is located 40 kilometers to the West of St. Petersburg on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland. In contrast to the Catherine’s Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, the Grand palace in Peterhof looks more modest, because it was the first work of the architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli to remodel an old Palace of Peter the Great into sumptuous baroque by the order of his daughter Empress Elizabeth. The main attraction here is not the Grand Palace, but the Park. Due to the large number of Fountains, Peterhof is rightly called the Northern Versailles. The Samson Grand Cascade has more than 150 jets of water. Its spectacular view, with several dozen gilded statues, impresses all visitors. Totally there are 154 fountains and cascades in the Parks of Peterhof. On this tour we visit only the Park.
Founded by Catherine the Great in 1764, nowadays the Hermitage is one of the most famous museums in the world. Its collection numbers about 3 million objects of Fine Art. Among them are the famous paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, El Greco, Rembrandt, Rubens, the French impressionists, a large collection of antique sculpture and archaeological artifacts. A year is not enough to see everything there! During the tour you will see the masterpieces of the museum – the State Rooms of The Winter Palace, the Small, Old and New Hermitage.
